Creepy doll made from living cells
What can some researchers do when they smoke too much or when they are getting bored? Invent things.
It’s the case of some researchers from the University of Tokyo who have created a 5 millimeter tall doll made entirely from living cells.
They started cultivating balls of skin cell covered collagen in doll shaped molds and they combined into a single chunk of tissue. The doll survived for more than a day in a culture solution.
The researchers, led by IIS professor Shoji Takeuchi, successfully tested the biofabrication method using human liver cells. According to Takeuchi, the technique can be used to create bodily organs and tissues with complex cellular structures, which may prove useful in the fields of regenerative medicine and drug development.
“The overall shape can be controlled by changing the mold,” said Takeuchi, who expressed a desire to combine multiple types of cells to create a complex system that functions as a living organism.
I knew it, that’s how the Cylons were created !
