Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi!: The Lich King has risen !

The second expansion pack for the fantasy role-playing online game the World of Warcraft has finally gone on sale.

People all over the world waited the special midnight opening: 2,000 people waited outside an Oxford Street store in central London, I have counted more than 400 in Bucharest, Romania and similar launch events were being held in North America, Taiwan, and South Korea.

Why all the fuss, you might ask yourself: Well maybe because Wrath of the Lich King includes a bonus continent for high-level players, a bunch of new enemies, lots of new equipment, spells, new professions, a new type of character known as a Death Knight and Arthas himself.

Developed by Blizzard Entertainment and launched in 2004, World of Warcraft has grown into one of the most popular of all online games, with more than 11 million registered players.

“We’ve been looking forward to this launch event all year.This is one of the few opportunities we get to meet with players in person” (Blizzard’s chief executive Mike Morhaime).
The new expansion pack is priced at £24.99 ($39.99). You’ll also need copy of the original game, the Burning Crusade expansion and a monthly subscription of £8.99 ($15).
