seagate_logo-290x142We’ve just heard that Seagate is investing more than $100 million into developing a new type of solid-state drives (SSDs). What’s up with that?

CEO Bill Watkins stated that the company is trying to resolve certain issues with the current technology, including SSDs’ higher cost of production and a solution would be to create a new technology that combines single-layer cell (SLC) and multi-layer cell (MLC) tech.
Seagate is now working on such hybrid technology, and also it will need to develop new controller technology for the devices.
Bill Watkins also said that Seagate is currently developing a new network attached storage drive meant for home use.
