The green 4TB ShareSpace NAS from Western Digital
Space, space and lots of storage space with the greenish fresh ShareSpace 4TB Network Storage System from Western Digital.
Greenish because it comes populated with 1TB WD GreenPower drives, and some voices are saying that they consume 33 percent less power than standard 3.5-inch disks while running quite cool.
If we turn it upside down, well not literally, we see three USB slots (two in the rear and one up front), a Gigabit ethernet, and two buttons, and..thats all. The drives are swappable, but don’t forget to power the thing down, before you do the swap.
On the “inside” we have iTunes server support, email alerts, Microsoft Active Directory support, a download manager, WD AnyWhere network backup software, MioNet remote access, an FTP server, and much more. If we turn it again we find administration options, like permissions, user IDs, quotas, and so on. Storage can be handled in RAID0, RAID1, or RAID5 (default for the 4TB model, leaves you with about 3TB capacity). It is compatible with Windows 2000/XP/Vista as well as MAc OS X.
Prices are: 2 TB is $699.99 USD; MSRP for the WD ShareSpace storage system with 4 TB is $999.99 USD.
