China walks in space with small steps
Fighter pilot Zhai Zhigang is the first Chinese astronaut who took a walk in space, as BBC reports. The astronaut emerged from the capsule orbiting earth, the Shenzhou VII capsule, around 08:30 GMT, made some steps into space while waving the Chinese flag. This event was broadcasted live by the Chinese national TV, the whole space walking event taking about 15 minutes (..oh the fame). BBC also reports that the astronaut’s suit costs somewhere between $10-$30 mil dollars, a very accurate estimate if you ask me.
China’s ambition to build an orbiting station is already known and this is the first step towards the “Chinese dream”. This event also puts China in the 3rd place as a nation after USA and Russia, for independently putting a man into space.
