USB tickets for the public transportation?

usb_train_tickets-290x184We all know that public transportation eats our time and occasionally our brains waiting to buy a ticket. This time lapsing nightmare could end in the near future, using an USB ticket. Yes, you read good, currently tested by SNCF, the French public transportation company, this device will allow the passengers to pay for the tickets online.

The USB ticket is actually a RFID enabled smart card, the Weneo ID Smart. All you have to do is to plug the USB device within your computer or laptop, connect to the SNCF’s website and pay for the ticket online. The device records the transaction and you are on the go. At the train station, some people will (hopefully) wait for you with some RFID card readers that will hopefully validate your virtual ticket.

The SNCF hopes to implement this payment method by the end of 2010, testing as we speak. This can only mean good news for us at all I can say is…was about time!
