intel-dunnington-cpu-290x176Expected to be launched around September 15, the last member of the Penryn familty, the six core Dunnington CPU is targeted at the server market. The Intel Xeon 7400 series Dunnington CPU will boost the server’s performance mainly due to its 6 Mb cache and of course, the six cores present on the chip.

The Intel Xeon 7400 series is also the first processor that has a monolithic design, meaning that all cores will be placed on the same silicon chip. Being part of the Penryn family, the processor is based on the 45 nm technology and it is compatible with the Xeon 7300 socket.

Intel also announced that server vendors such as Dell, HP and Sun will equip the new processor on their upcoming servers. It’s most likely that this CPU will be the last to be launched before Nehalem, the new arhitecture being announced for the 4th quarter.
