Seagate logo“Space, the final Frontier” has to be the motto at Seagate Technology because they just unveiled the new 1.5 Terabyte hard drive for desktop and two half-terabyte notebook drives. The 11th Generation of Seagate’s flagship drive 7200.11 (a conventional 3.5 inch drive with Serial ATA interface of 3 gigabits per second and 120 megabytes sustained data allowing faster boot times, file access and application start up) uses the “perpendicular magnetic recording” technology in which the magnetic bits are arranged vertically on the surface of the disc, therefore boosting storage. This line of production is targeted at mainstream computers, workstations, gaming, graphic stations and high end PC’s.

For the notebook market Seagate also introduced Momentus 7200.4 and the 5400.6., 2.5 inches drives with Serial ATA interface of 3 Gb per second and shock protection technology (“parks the heads off the disc when it senses that the notebook is in free fall of as little as eight inches”). If you already want to buy them, you don’t have to wait too long because the Barracuda 7200.11 will be shipped in August and the Momentus drives in the fourth quarter.

All the drives are under a five year warranty.
